Obviously, the only way this will slow down is if I post links to distract everyone to reading & commenting on what's already been posted. Oh, and it would also help if Dr Ogi would stop with the superfail, already. Because if he keeps with his current curve, I can't be held responsible if this is bigger than Strikethrough.

It'd take some MASSIVE fail to do that... but dayam, he does seem to have those skillz.

We don't remove links to posts, although we will mark them with strikethrough and point out that the author has removed access or doesn't want comments.

However, I won't even do that for anonymous requests... because I have no idea which of the thirty-odd posts was yours, and am not clicking on them all again to find out.

I'm glad someone's reading them all; I just skim them and sort out if they're appropriate to the topic, and then code them.

And there's a long, LOOOONG list I haven't included, of people who make short posts that basically say "that survey? Eww."

Sure, I just thought that if it was your practice to do it, you probably wanted to. I'm pretty sure that one was it, BTW, as I've just finished reading all the rest, and they're all open.

I imagine the list is almost as long as there are fans that find out about it! I did my own, redirecting people here, just in case someone in my small circle hadn't found out about it yet--one has to share the awfulness, you know. I'm glad you're compilation the posts with meat* in them. :)

Just for future reference, are you saying that if I put up a "newsletters, please do not link" comment at the top of a future post, you'd link to it anyway? I don't mind being linked this time, but I'm not crazy about having my wishes ignored if I make them explicit up front.

Hasn't come up yet. We've waffled over it.

I'd leave it out unless I were somehow convinced that post was absolutely crucial to the overall conversation. (If Elizabeth Bear's "I was only kidding when I said you had some points" post had said "do not link," we'd've linked it.) I'd put a note up that says "please don't reply there" or something like that, if it were made obvious that the person doesn't want a wankstorm in their journal.

We're still trying to sort out the ethics of not-pestering-people vs offering a full roundup of what's going on. Generally, any single post is not important enough to violate people's wish for the semi-privacy that we normally expect.

I've just had some not-so-hot experiences with being linked on posts before, and my posts are really more in the way of signal-boosting rather than meta commentary. I'd hate to have to think twice about spreading the word because of worries about trolls coming into my journal.

I have one of your posts listed in my "signal boost" list--the ones I'm not posting, 'cos they mostly say, "EPIC FAIL; here, have a link."

I have almost 40 of those. I keep track of them as I collect, so I don't keep clicking on the same posts and then realizing I've already decided not to include them.

I've included a few "signal boost" posts that wound up getting lots of comments beyond the expected "WTF?" You've reminded me that it's probably not a good idea to post a list of signalboost posts; I'd been thinking about it.

On the one hand, I want to say, "thank you for all these posts that get the message out to people who haven't heard it." On the other, I don't want to swamp people with unwanted attention, or remind their creepy ex that they're still posting, or anything like that.

I don't know if you can see the difference if you're not logged in to LJ but if you are clicking on the URL of a deleted entry will direct you either to a 404 Page Not Found page or to page that says "No such entry" while the page for a locked entry will say "You are not authorized to view this protected entry".
