Hi, I'm creamy_martian on livejournal and I would appreciate what you mean by extreme statements of privilege. I was attempting to take a look at the privilege included with it and would appreciate an understanding of what you mean.

-nods- I would still kinda like to know why you were linking to my post? Because if there's something for me to learn, I would like the chance to do so.

Er, I'm not elf, but to my understanding (which I'm pretty sure it's right), people linked don't necessarily need to learn anything. (Of course, some may, but that's not the purpose of the link round up.)

This comm links to current discussions on fandom about -ism or oppressions-- it links to any open posts about the current(s) subject(s).

I did not know that. With the warning, I was/am concerned that I had said something accidentally bigoted.

You know... considering the post is tagged "real life" and "family" maybe it shouldn't have been included at all, considering there's only a brief, passing mention of the Lambda awards?

I agree with this anonymous post. I think that in her desire to "be complete" when linkspamming, [personal profile] elf has probably gone overboard in linking to EVERY mention rather than just the significant ones that show some inkling of the larger debate going on.

Dragging someone into this because they mentioned the Lambda awards in passing doesn't seem to be a great way to do anti-oppression activism.

Just a suggestion to the admin, but given the confusion voiced in this comment, I think it might be a good idea to clarify the purpose of this community and what the goal of the linkspams are. While it's true the original members are familiar with their history and their origin from [livejournal.com profile] rydra_wong's linkspams during RaceFail, the community's purpose has grown to encompass covering all kinds of fail and oppression. As a result, more people are dropping by who don't know the background and don't know the etiquette (I guess that's the right word) of being included in a linkspam post (i.e. it doesn't necessarily mean you're failing, etc.)

So maybe something in the community profile would be a good idea?

Fair enough. I realize the community is currently in flux and at the very least, policies and such NEED to be hammered out before they get written up in the profile. You can't write that stuff up if there's no clear policy from which the admin are working.

[personal profile] elf, you said you weren't including boosting-the-signal posts; I wouldn't really consider mine to be more than boosting-the-signal and complaining a little.
