Re: whose side?
Date: 2009-09-30 04:13 am (UTC)Re: whose side?
Date: 2009-09-30 04:32 am (UTC)I could just not report on issues I have a personal interest/stake in.
I'm not willing to ignore issues I have a personal interest/stake in.
I'm not sure I could reasonably not comment on any posts I linkspam, unless they're on my f'list/readlist, other than the "you've been Linkspammed!" comment. I might be able to do that temporarily, but I don't think I could stick with it in the long run. Have to think about it. I don't think I'd be prone to leaving out posts in order to comment on them--but I have to admit I'd be tempted. Having to choose between "share the link" and "say something" is not a spot I'm willing to put myself in on a regular basis.
Re: whose side?
Date: 2009-09-30 05:23 am (UTC)And kill the tagline, because it is absolutely no longer true.

Date: 2009-09-30 07:29 am (UTC)If you see that posts on your side haven't been represented, I would suggest you send links to elf--or set up your own community, if you think elf is going to ignore those posts (which I doubt, but YMMV)--rather than asking elf to step down.

Date: 2009-09-30 04:26 pm (UTC)Re: whose side?
Date: 2009-09-30 04:59 pm (UTC)you can be a reporter or you can be a participant. You can't easily or fairly be both.
is more than a little inaccurate, IMO. For one, it's a binary fallacy. And second, *everybody* posting here and elsewhere on LJ and its clones is both: by definition, talking about an issue is both being a reporter *and* being a participant.
Also, I'm disturbed by the implication, when you say it's not your job to ensure "anyone else's objectivity", that you yourself have this mythical quality of "objectivity." But I'm not going to assume that is what you meant. I've never gotten the feeling that linkspam pretends to be "objective," for whatever values of "objectivity" one might wish to assign.
Re: whose side?
Date: 2009-09-30 07:07 pm (UTC)Re: whose side?
Date: 2009-09-30 10:13 pm (UTC)Which is why I'm glad Elf is doing it, as I haven't the time to do more than take the benefits and run...
As to the current Fail, I am just happy to see so many posts linked, so I can go read and be enlightened. Also, to see where the reaction has perhaps been more to the "OMG Change Is Coming" than to the principle of the thing. Fandom so loves to overreact. *g* Or that is, sometimes to react to implications that haven't yet been realized and may not be. Whatever - the more I am able to read widely on a topic, the more I do feel I'm able to sort out the issues and avoid one of those blanket "All X are bad, All Y good" responses that tend to distort the complexity of reality (and real people) but blow up into such lovely (not!) wanks.
Re: whose side?
Date: 2009-10-01 12:54 am (UTC)1) Cease posting to linkspam,
2) Change the tagline, and cease posting to linkspam,
3) Discuss, in non-public venues, policies for linkspam roundups, and either agree to them, or cease posting to linkspam.
If you don't think I'm doing anti-oppression work, are you volunteering to do it instead?
Am willing to stop. Am not willing to agree that your idea of anti-oppression work is more accurate than mine. Am willing to discuss the possibility that this is the case--but not here.
